A Christmas pub quiz with no answer sheets to mark

Christmas is when the pub is fullest. Spend the night on the microphone, not marking: teams play on their phones, the scores add themselves up, and the big screen keeps the whole room watching.

Dress the room

Put the big-screen view on your TV or projector and pick the Christmas theme: the questions, the scores and the leaderboard dress for the season, on the screen and on every phone. Teams join by scanning the QR code on the screen, and their names pop up as they arrive.

A team shares a four-letter code, so one phone answers for the table while everyone else confers.

A Christmas round plan

  1. General knowledge with a festive twist, to warm up.
  2. Picture round: name the Christmas film from a still.
  3. Music: Christmas number ones, put in order by year.
  4. Emoji round: 🎅🦌 and friends.
  5. The break: the raffle, food, a mini game.
  6. A tougher general knowledge round.
  7. True or false, to speed things up.
  8. The finale - with a closest-wins question ready for a tie.

Eight rounds of eight to ten questions fills about two hours with a break. More on running a quiz night.

Between the rounds

Eighteen mini games break the night up: Ten Seconds, Green Light, Hold Your Nerve, Pass the Bomb, Tug of War, Buzzers, Bullseye, Colour Clash, Quick Maths, Tap Frenzy, Higher or Lower, Word Scramble, Emoji Decode, Memory Match, Closest Wins, Rock Paper Scissors, Spot the Ball and Doodle Duel. Drop one in for the whole room, or as a head to head between two tables.

Put your own message on the big screen between rounds - the raffle, last orders, a thank-you to a sponsor.

Fill the pub before the night

Put your Christmas quiz on your pub's own website with one line of code: a card with the date, a countdown, and a Join button once the doors open, in your own colours and logo. See the website card guide.
